To make money from a website, you need to get good search engine rank from Google or else somehow drive targeted traffic (the people have to be interested in what you’re selling or advertising or you won’t make money).
Once you have web hosting and a domain name, it’s easy to build a website or blog and get started. Web hosts will have blog platform software for you. This software allows you to install a blog on your domain and have it live on the Internet in about 5 minutes.
Once your website is on the Internet, you put content on it and then advertising. Let’s say for example that you create a website about dog clothes. You put some pictures of dog clothes on the site and then you can put ads for dog clothes. The most popular and effective advertising by far is Google Adsense. You can sign up for Adsense for free. There are also affiliate programs you can sign up for like CJ.com and ShareASale.com that have a bunch of different retailers you can apply to. If you sell products, you receive a cut of the commission.
Once your website or blog is up and running, just keep building content and posting things people will want to read about or look at. As you become more popular, you’ll make more money in advertising and some advertisers may even come to you (an advertiser approached me just about an hour ago).
